Principles
The Principles and Educational Goals of the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW)

Aiming to build “a society where people live together”
IUHW has set the following three Fundamental Principles: the university focused on well-balanced individuals with a solid sense of humanity; the university strongly connected to and fully open to the community; and the university directed towards the attainment of a global standard. The university also has the following seven educational principles: personality development; expertise; interdisciplinarity; information science and technology; global perspective; free inspiration; and innovative university administration. Our focus is on realizing these principles and providing an education that will help to build "a society where people live together", where the sick, disabled, and able-bodied individuals can respect and support each other in mutual recognition.
The Three Fundamental Principles of IUHW
The university that focuses on well-balanced individuals with a solid sense of humanity
Fostering sensible and well-balanced individuals with broad perspectives, not those just focused on acquiring specialized knowledge and technical skills as professionals.
The university that is strongly connected to and fully open to the community
Pursuing academic goals innovatively, as well as responding to the needs for health and welfare services in the local community. Aiming to serve as a base for life-time education for those involved in community services and healthcare professions.
The university that is directed towards the attainment of global standard
Fostering international professionals with an international outlook and equipping them with the skills necessary for effective collaboration with people from other countries.
The Seven Educational Principles of IUHW
Personality development
Through fostering professionals not only equipped with knowledge and technical skills, but also with wisdom, passion and motivation, we will head towards “the realization of a society where people live together”. Our goal is to foster broad, balanced personalities capable of independent thought and action.
Expertise
We aim to establish academic disciplines and promote research in order to keep pace with the rapid advancements and increasing specialization in healthcare and welfare. Students will develop the capabilities befitting healthcare and welfare professionals while studying at IUHW.
Interdisciplinarity
As a university with unique strengths in the health and welfare field, we offer students the opportunity to take specialized courses from other departments as part of their liberal arts education, while also placing emphasis on their extracurricular activities. The goal is to cultivate health and welfare professionals with comprehensive liberal arts knowledge.
Information science and technology
To cultivate health and welfare professionals with strong expertise in information science and technology, each and every department provides the latest knowledge and technical skills necessary to respond to the rapid advancements of the information-driven society.
Global perspective
Beyond general education, such as foreign language studies, we aim to cultivate individuals with a global outlook as citizens (or private persons) and as professionals (or public persons) through our specialized educational programs and academic experiences.
Free inspiration
While upholding human dignity and adherence to societal rules and manners, we encourage independent thinking and actions among our students, particularly with regard to their interest in and exploration of religions, ideologies, and social movements.
Innovative university administration
In prompt response to the changing times, the university management continues to review and reform its practices. These include abolishing seniority-based systems and introducing mechanisms that allow students to evaluate faculty members. We foster student autonomy within a free and open academic atmosphere. Regarding graduate education, our focus will be on education and research for professional development, particularly from a lifelong learning perspective.
