Special Entrance Examination for International Students

Eligibility:

Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements.

  1. Applicants must have neither Japanese nationality nor permanent residential status in Japan.
  2. Applicants must either have completed 12 years of school education outside Japan (including those who are expected to complete them by March 31st, 2021), or meet equivalent conditions specified above and designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
  3. Applicants must be able to obtain the “Student (Ryugaku)” visa mandated by Japanese Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act by the time of enrollment.
  4. Applicants must have an adequate English proficiency to attend lectures in that language.
    ※As a reference guideline, it is preferable to have either at least 80 of TOEFL iBT or 6.0 of IELTS.

Special Entrance Examination for Returnee Students & Students of International School

Eligibility:

Applicants, with Japanese nationality or foreign nationals with permanent residential status in Japan, must have an eligibility for the admission to bachelor’s degree program of universities in Japan, and satisfy one of the following requirements.

  1. Applicants must either have completed 12 years of school education outside Japan (including those who are expected to complete them by March 31st, 2021), or have spent more than 2 years (including the final school year and those who are expected to complete them by March 31st, 2021) and graduated from an overseas Japanese school which is classified as its overseas educational institution by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
  2. Applicants must have spent more than 2 years and graduated from a university or college and postgraduate course outside Japan (including those who are expected to complete them by March 31st, 2021).
  3. Applicants must have spent more than 6 years outside Japan since they turned 6 years of age.
  4. (Applicants must have spent more than 2 years (including the final school year) and graduated from an international school in Japan (including those who are expected to complete them by March 31st, 2021).

※Those who wish to make an application under the requirement of above (3) need to submit documents which can testify the years of residence abroad. Please contact the Admissions Office immediately if it is difficult to prepare them for some reasons.

In principal, all applications are accepted through the online application in Japanese. In case you find it difficult to apply in Japanese, please proceed with your application in "Application in English".

For International Students
• The 1st and 2nd phase screening can be selected in either Japanese language or English, except "English examination", during the application process.
For Returnee Students & Students of International School
• The 1st and 2nd phase screening examinations will be conducted in only English language.
For All Students
1st phase screening:
• Applicants do not need to choose two science subjects at the time of application. Two subjects can be decided from three within the test time on the day of examination.
• The scope of examinations of Mathematics and Science follows that of the latest version of EJU (Course 2 for Mathematics). For the detail of EJU, applicants are recommended to check on the website of Japan Student Services Organization.
2nd phase screening:
This will be conducted solely for the candidates passing the 1st phase screening.
• If applicants currently lives overseas, the 2nd phase screening may be conducted on the same day of the 1st phase screening
